Kia Seltos and Mg Hector both off to a flying start in India, Are they the new segment leaders?
Kia with its Seltos and MG with its Hectors has shown the car makers in the country that cars could be sold to the customers despite economic slowdown. Both Kia and Mg has bagged above expectation bookings since launch.
For new companies to get such a huge response in India with their first product is really impressive. Seltos has 35k booking on hold and had already sold 6200 unit in its first month. But MG is the one that has surprised the auto enthusiast with such a huge number of bookings. Current situation is such that MG has currently stopped taking bookings of its Hector and would concentrate on product delivery of the existing booking.(Can you remember which Suv had such demand that the company came out with lucky draw to sell its vehicle, well it was the Xuv 500 during its initial time in the market) . MG and Kia seems to be following the same mantra as both offers tremendous value in their cars.Apple Car play and Android Auto are normal but what takes it to a new level is the connected car technology.Just imagine that both cars allows you to start your car from anywhere in the world and set the temperature of the car thought a mobile application that's connected car technology for you.It also allows to open sunroof via voice command that's insane (This feature is exclusive to Hector).
Leave the connected car technology aside,`the feature list is such expansive that Harrier that was considered the benchmark in the segment has now started feeling boring when compared to Seltos and Hector. From Panoramic Sunroof to Pop up display to 360 degree camera the cars have it all. Its insane but the top end Fortuner that cost approximately 38 lakh and has comparatively less features.
Well they have already won over you right but do u know the history of these Suv's?
Kia Seltos-
Kia, the cousin brand of Hundai, korean car manufacturer has massive plans for India. In Auto Expo 2018 , Greater Noida, its pavillion was the largest and they had every thing from Hatchbacks to Suv to Ev's they had it all.But most interesting was the Sp concept that was developed considering the Indian market and made its global debut. Now after almost a year and a half its had transformed its self from concept to on road vehicles and it seems that they had understood the Indian consumers well thanks to Hundai in that regard as they(kia) may have got all the research information from Hundai which itself is a key player in Indian car industry.
MG Hector-Morris Garrages, a British automaker is owned by a Chinese company, SAIC motors.Actually the Hector isnt a MG kid its actually Baojun 530 sold in China that is being re-branded as a MG product in India to remove the Chinese tag which we Indian's in general consider "Chala toh chand tak varna saam tak" but MG says that they have made numerous number of changes to adapt to the Indian environment and the vehicle is superior in quality. They are offering 5 years of warranty and sale back at 60% of the cost after three years to build on customers trust and base. The marketing team has done wonders to hide the Chinese tag form the car and portray it as a British car.
